How to Choose the Music For Your Corporate Event

If you are planning on hosting a corporate function for a special event, holiday or company related function, then a sophisticated cocktail party can be a great addition to your soiree. In addition to finding the perfect location, cocktails and hors de’ oeuvres, you will want to make sure that you hand select the right music for your event as well.  The music at a gathering such as this can be instrumental in setting the mood for your corporate function. Here are some tips to consider when it comes to choosing the right music to set the right type of mood for your upcoming function.

Consider the Purpose of the Music

Every corporate event is different, and different functions may expect the musical entertainment to serve different purposes. Think about the primary purpose of the event and what role the music will be playing. If the music is for background noise or entertainment then a string quartet or single violinist may be more appropriated. If the music is designed to be a particular feature of the event, then you may want to consider music that will stand out more, such as a jazz band.

With this in mind, you will also want to consider the purpose of the function. If you are holding a holiday party for the office, for employees to let loose and unwind, then a band may be more appropriate. However, if the function is all about networking, then softer low key music may be needed so your guests can still talk.

Music for Specific Times Of Your Event

Many times, with large corporate gatherings, a single event will be split up into different parts. There may be a cocktail hour, dinner and then an after party. For these situations, it may be necessary to have different styles of music playing for different parts of the event. For example, you may require a single pianist playing for cocktails and during dinner, and then add a singer for after dinner mingling. Think about the musicians you are considering and whether or not separate musicians or musical stylings will be necessary for the function.

What Mood Are You Looking to Set

If the corporate event you are hosting is also hosting business partners and clients, or if you are hosting a type of award ceremony, then you may want to set a certain atmosphere during your event. These are situations where you will want your music to exude sophistication. Make sure that you and the musicians are clear about the tone of the gathering, the itinerary of the event and what the appropriate attire is. While this is a popular choice for corporate functions, elegant quartets or single pianists aren’t the only type of musicians that can be booked for a corporate gathering. If your event is only internal and designed to be a family function, then a more upbeat band, jazz trio or a group with vocals may be more appropriate for the jovial mood you are trying to portray.
