Dr. Woody Witt stands as a distinguished figure in the world of jazz and music education, with an illustrious career spanning decades of performance, composition, and pedagogy. As a Professor of Music at Houston Community College and Saxophone Instructor at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music, he leverages his extensive academic and professional background to mentor aspiring musicians. Dr. Witt holds advanced degrees in music, including a Doctor of Musical Arts in performance from the University of Houston. A consummate saxophonist, he has collaborated with globally acclaimed artists such as Randy Brecker, Billy Hart, and Tim Hagans. His contributions extend beyond the stage, with 13 albums to his credit as a leader or co-leader and over 50 recordings as a sideman. Notably, his album Pots and Kettles achieved recognition on the CMJ and Jazzweek charts, exemplifying his creativity as a composer and performer.

Beyond his accolades, Dr. Witt remains an active contributor to the jazz community, exemplified through his ongoing innovation and dedication. A grand-prize winner of the 2014 Taichung International Jazz Saxophone Competition, he continues to inspire through international performances and masterclasses. His creative output includes a newly released standards-based jazz etude project, Stream of Consciousness, featuring works that have garnered educational acclaim, including selection for Texas All-State Jazz. Dr. Witt’s versatile career also bridges musical genres, reflected in collaborations with the Houston Symphony and his leadership in Houston’s jazz scene as a former owner of Cézanne jazz club. With a passion for advancing jazz education and performance, Dr. Woody Witt remains an influential and visionary force in contemporary music.
